Libya central bank says cyberattack targeted technical systems
The Central Bank of Libya said it detected a cyberattack targeting parts of its technical infrastructure, prompting the isolation of affected systems and the activation of emergency security protocols.
In a statement, the bank said the incident involved a breach affecting certain information technology systems and digital services, adding that security teams had launched an investigation into the scope and origin of the attack.
The central bank said it is working with local and international cybersecurity specialists to assess the impact and determine whether any data compromise occurred. It noted that forensic analysis is ongoing and that restoring affected systems is being handled in parallel to ensure continuity of services.
According to the bank, no confirmed evidence has been found so far indicating that customer accounts, deposits or financial balances were impacted. Authorities said all possible scenarios are still being examined as part of the ongoing technical review.
The institution added that the attack appears to have been limited to a small number of systems, while core banking services, including card operations and digital payment platforms, continue to function.
The Central Bank of Libya emphasized that safeguarding financial stability and data security remains a priority, and said further measures will be taken to strengthen its cybersecurity infrastructure against future threats.
An internal investigation is ongoing, with additional updates expected as more information becomes available.(ILKHA)
