Malaysia’s PM: Peace agreements ignoring full Palestinian rights are doomed to fail
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reaffirmed Malaysia’s unwavering stance on the Palestinian issue, warning that any peace deal not securing the full rights of Palestinians is inherently unsustainable. He urged the international community to take decisive action against ongoing aggression in Gaza.
Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that his country’s position regarding Palestine remains firm, principled, and non-negotiable. Speaking during a detailed statement to the press on Thursday evening, the Prime Minister warned that peace agreements failing to guarantee the full rights of the Palestinian people are doomed to collapse.
Anwar called upon the international community to clearly outline plans targeting Palestinians and to adopt a firm stance against any attempt to undermine their rights. He highlighted that a just and enduring solution can only be achieved if Israel halts its ongoing military operations and immediately ends illegal settlement activities in the West Bank.
The Prime Minister stressed that an independent Palestinian state must be established within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, noting that this is indispensable for regional peace and the freedom of the Palestinian people. He also directly conveyed this message to the United States, emphasizing that partial or conditional agreements that disregard Palestinian rights cannot be considered legitimate.
Anwar Ibrahim further condemned the attacks in Gaza that have persisted since October 7, 2023. He described these operations as a de facto genocide, citing figures from the Palestinian Ministry of Health indicating over 239,000 casualties, including dead and injured, alongside tens of thousands reported missing. The ongoing hunger, forced displacement, and humanitarian crisis in Gaza underscore the urgent need for decisive global intervention, he added.
The Prime Minister concluded by reaffirming Malaysia’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, emphasizing that international actors must uphold justice and accountability while ensuring that any future agreement genuinely respects Palestinian rights. He warned that the continuation of half-measures or superficial solutions will only perpetuate suffering and instability in the region.(ILKHA)
