Michel Aoun demands full Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon

Lebanese President Michel Aoun reaffirmed Lebanon’s firm stance on the Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territories and the return of Lebanese detainees during a meeting with U.S. Senator Ronny Jackson at the Presidential Palace in Baabda.
Aoun stressed that Israel’s continued occupation of five key border points constitutes a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement, calling on the international community—particularly the United States—to exert pressure on Tel Aviv to fully comply with the cessation of hostilities.
The Lebanese president also dismissed any allegations of leniency on the part of the Lebanese Army in implementing the agreed-upon terms, underscoring the military's commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In response, Jackson pledged to coordinate with the U.S. administration and lawmakers to ensure continued material and logistical support for the Lebanese Armed Forces, recognizing their crucial role in maintaining stability.
In a separate meeting with a U.S. delegation led by Congressman Darrell Issa, Aoun once again called on Washington to take decisive action to push for Israel’s complete withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
While Israeli forces vacated several towns along the southern border—including Yaroun, Maroun al-Ras, Blida, Mays al-Jabal, Houla, Markaba, Odaisseh, Kfar Kila, and al-Wazzani—they have refused to relinquish control over five strategic locations, in direct defiance of international resolutions.
Demonstrating Lebanon’s commitment to its national security strategy and international obligations, the Lebanese Army swiftly deployed its units in the vacated areas, facilitating the safe return of displaced residents to their homes in the south.
Lebanon’s highest authorities have reiterated their unwavering commitment to UN Resolution 1701, affirming that the presence of Israeli forces on any inch of Lebanese land constitutes an illegal occupation. The Lebanese government has vowed to pursue all legal avenues to hold Israel accountable under international law.
As Lebanon continues to stand firm in defense of its sovereignty, it remains steadfast in its demand for justice and the full restoration of its land, ensuring that Israeli violations will not go unchallenged. (ILKHA)
