Mpox cases in Ghana surpass 1,000 as outbreak spreads nationwide
Mpox cases in Ghana have exceeded 1,000, with infections continuing to spread across the country, according to health authorities.
In a statement, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) said the virus has now been detected in all 16 regions, with the total number of confirmed cases rising to 1,062.
Authorities also reported that the death toll from the outbreak has reached eight.
Health officials noted that surveillance and contact-tracing efforts are ongoing nationwide in an effort to contain the spread of the virus.
The Ghanaian government previously announced that the first mpox cases were identified on May 19, 2025, when four individuals tested positive, while the first fatality linked to the virus was recorded on July 28, 2025.
Meanwhile, vaccination efforts targeting high-risk groups are continuing as part of measures to curb the outbreak.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as concerns remain over the sustained rise in infections. (ILKHA)
