Palestinian prisoner Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya is enduring worsening health conditions and repeated physical abuse inside Israel's Rakevet Prison, the Asra Media Office (AMO) said, warning that his life is at increasing risk amid systematic medical neglect and mistreatment of Palestinian detainees.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the office said Abu Safiya has suffered multiple assaults since his transfer to Rakevet Prison on June 24, 2026, alleging that Israeli prison guards severely beat him with batons upon his arrival without provocation, leaving him with fractured ribs.

According to AMO, Abu Safiya's condition has continued to deteriorate due to repeated assaults, prolonged solitary confinement, and the denial of adequate medical care.

The office stated that the Palestinian doctor suffers from heart problems, high blood pressure, severe neck pain, a herniated disc, hernia, deteriorating eyesight, persistent dizziness, and rapid heartbeat. Despite the seriousness of his condition, prison authorities reportedly provide only painkillers and medication to control his blood pressure while withholding specialized medical treatment.

AMO said Abu Safiya endured what it described as the harshest attack since his detention on July 27, when Israeli prison forces carried out a large-scale raid inside the facility.

According to the statement, prison guards used batons, stun devices, tear gas, rubber bullets, and attack dogs against Palestinian prisoners during the operation.

The office described the incident as Abu Safiya's "hardest day" in detention, adding that the repeated violence has significantly worsened both his physical and psychological condition.

AMO also said Abu Safiya has spent 21 days in solitary confinement under harsh conditions, further compounding his suffering.

The Asra Media Office called on the international community, human rights organizations, and humanitarian institutions to take urgent action to halt what it described as ongoing Israeli violations against Palestinian prisoners.

The office urged increased international pressure on Israel to end abuses inside its prisons, provide detainees with adequate medical care, ensure their protection under international humanitarian law, and work toward securing the release of Palestinian prisoners.

Rights advocates have repeatedly raised concerns over the treatment of Palestinian detainees, warning that prolonged detention, medical neglect, solitary confinement, and physical abuse place many prisoners at serious risk and violate internationally recognized standards governing the treatment of prisoners.
