Report: Israeli forces, settlers escalate violations in occupied Jerusalem during June
Israeli occupation forces and settlers dramatically intensified their violations against Palestinians in Occupied Jerusalem during June 2026, carrying out hundreds of documented abuses targeting residents, homes, and Islamic holy sites, according to a new report released by the Ma’ta Palestine Information Center.
The report documented 540 Israeli violations throughout the month, reflecting what Palestinian organizations describe as a continuing campaign of repression, displacement, and encroachment on Palestinian rights in the occupied city.
Among the most alarming developments was the sharp rise in settler incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, Islam's third-holiest site. According to the report, more than 8,900 Israeli settlers entered the mosque compound during June under the protection of Israeli forces.
The center also recorded 20 incidents of desecration and provocation within the holy site, as well as two expulsion orders targeting Palestinian worshipers and residents who maintain a presence at Al-Aqsa in an effort to safeguard the mosque from increasing settler encroachments.
Palestinian groups and religious authorities have repeatedly warned that such incursions threaten the historical and legal status quo governing the sacred compound and fuel tensions across the occupied Palestinian territories.
The report further documented widespread violence and restrictions imposed on Palestinians throughout Occupied Jerusalem. During June alone, 10 Palestinians were injured, while Israeli forces carried out 25 shooting incidents, 25 settler attacks and settlement-related violations, and five physical assaults against Palestinian residents.
Israeli occupation forces also conducted 71 arrests, many targeting young Palestinians, alongside 102 military raids and closures across Jerusalem neighborhoods. In addition, authorities imposed 183 movement restrictions, including military checkpoints and roadblocks that limited Palestinians' freedom of movement.
The report highlighted continued efforts to displace Palestinian families and alter the demographic character of the city. Israeli authorities carried out 63 home raids and property confiscations, while 32 homes and structures were demolished or damaged, leaving numerous Palestinian families facing displacement and financial hardship.
According to the Ma’ta Center, the violations documented in June form part of a broader pattern that has intensified throughout 2026.
During the first six months of the year, 11 Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces or settlers in the Jerusalem Governorate, while 191 others were injured and 866 Palestinians were arrested.
The report also pointed to what it described as an unprecedented escalation in violations at Al-Aqsa Mosque. Between January and June 2026, it documented 25,604 settler incursions into the mosque compound. In addition, more than 524,000 individuals entered the site under Israeli-designated "tourism" visits, a practice Palestinian officials argue is increasingly being used to normalize Israeli control over the sacred area.
Palestinian organizations have warned that the growing frequency of settler incursions, demolitions, arrests, and movement restrictions reflects a systematic effort to consolidate Israeli control over Occupied Jerusalem while undermining Palestinian presence in the city.
The latest figures come amid continued international concern over the situation in Jerusalem, where tensions surrounding Al-Aqsa Mosque and Israeli settlement activities remain among the most sensitive and volatile issues in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. (ILKHA)
