Sudanese Army reports gains against RSF in Kordofan amid ongoing clashes
Sudan’s armed forces have announced significant successes against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Kordofan region, claiming to have regained control of key areas previously held by the militia.
According to the Sudanese military, operations conducted west of the capital Khartoum in North Kordofan have inflicted heavy losses on RSF personnel and equipment, securing strategically vital locations.
The military stated that its units, redeployed in accordance with planned operational strategies, carried out high-impact maneuvers to regain control of multiple critical points. Local sources confirmed that RSF has maintained a siege on Babanusa for over a year, though Sudanese infantry divisions reportedly repelled the group’s latest attacks. Babanusa lies along the Khartoum route, approximately 600 kilometers from the capital, and is near the Darfur region and important oil fields close to the South Sudan border.
Clashes are also ongoing near El Obeid and Kadugli, the administrative center of South Kordofan under military control, where RSF has attempted to establish blockades for several months. The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) Chief of Staff, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, declared a nationwide mobilization against RSF last Saturday, highlighting the military’s determination to reclaim contested territories.
The conflict between Sudan’s regular army and RSF, which erupted on April 15, 2023, has resulted in at least 40,000 fatalities and forced over 14 million people to flee their homes. The army currently controls northern and eastern Sudan, including Khartoum, while RSF maintains strongholds in the south and Darfur region. Authorities continue to warn civilians in conflict zones to exercise caution as operations intensify.(ILKHA)
