Trump says Iran agreement finalized, Strait of Hormuz to reopen for shipping
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that an agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran has been finalized, paving the way for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the removal of restrictions affecting maritime traffic in the strategic waterway.
Trump said the deal concluded negotiations between Washington and Tehran and marked the completion of a diplomatic process that had drawn international attention due to its implications for regional stability and global energy markets.
In a statement posted on social media, Trump said the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened to unrestricted navigation and that the U.S. naval blockade would be lifted immediately.
“Congratulations to everyone. I fully approve the free opening of the Strait of Hormuz and the immediate lifting of the U.S. Navy blockade. Ships of the world, start your engines. Let the oil flow,” Trump wrote.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important maritime chokepoints, serving as a key route for global oil and energy shipments. Any disruption to traffic through the waterway has historically raised concerns over international trade and energy security.
Trump described the agreement as a significant development for international commerce, expressing optimism that maritime traffic and commercial activity in the region would return to normal.
Further details regarding the terms of the agreement were not immediately released.(ILKHA)
