Turkish FM Hakan Fidan to visit Moscow for high-level talks with Lavrov
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will pay a working visit to Moscow from June 15 to 17 at the invitation of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.
The visit is expected to underscore the continued high level of political dialogue between Ankara and Moscow, with the two top diplomats set to discuss a broad range of bilateral and international issues affecting regional and global stability.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, developments in the Middle East will feature prominently on the agenda, with particular emphasis on prospects for resolving the Palestinian issue. The ministers are also expected to exchange views on the evolving security landscape in the Black Sea region and measures aimed at ensuring the safety of maritime navigation.
The talks will further address cooperation in the South Caucasus, where both Russia and Türkiye have expressed interest in fostering a peaceful and predictable regional environment. Discussions are expected to focus on the unblocking of transport links and communications, as well as post-conflict reconstruction efforts. Moscow noted that both countries regard the "3+3" regional cooperation platform as one of the principal mechanisms for advancing dialogue and practical engagement in the region.
In addition, Lavrov and Fidan are set to review developments in Syria and Libya, as well as integration processes in Central Asia. The two sides will also assess the current state of Russian-Turkish trade and economic relations and explore avenues for further expanding bilateral cooperation.
Energy cooperation is also expected to occupy a significant place in the discussions. The agenda includes the progress of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant project, the operation of the Blue Stream and TurkStream natural gas pipelines, and broader issues related to energy collaboration between the two countries.
Another issue expected to be raised during the meeting is the safety and well-being of Russian tourists visiting Türkiye, reflecting the importance of tourism ties in the broader bilateral relationship.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that the upcoming meeting is intended to reaffirm the strategic nature of political dialogue between Moscow and Ankara and contribute to deeper cooperation on matters of mutual interest amid a rapidly changing regional landscape. (ILKHA)
