Turkish Foreign Minister Fidan meets Syrian President Sharaa in Washington
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a high-level meeting with Syrian President Ahmed Sharaa in Washington, during his official visit to the United States, diplomatic sources reported.
According to sources from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions focused on pressing regional issues, including security concerns in Syria, the ongoing conflict in northern and southern regions, and the impact of the Caesar Act sanctions on Syria.
Fidan emphasized the importance of preserving Syria’s territorial integrity while ensuring that Türkiye’s national security interests are safeguarded, particularly in northern and northeastern areas affected by ongoing armed operations.
The meeting also addressed the humanitarian situation in the region, including recent developments in Gaza and Türkiye’s stance on international resolutions concerning the Palestinian territories. The talks aimed to coordinate positions on regional stability, counter-terrorism, and reconstruction efforts.
Diplomatic observers note that the visit underscores Türkiye’s intention to play a direct and influential role in shaping solutions to Syria’s crisis, engaging both with the United States and Syrian leadership simultaneously.
This high-level dialogue comes at a critical moment as international powers negotiate to stabilize the region, manage humanitarian aid, and reconcile competing security and political interests in the Middle East.(ILKHA)
