Türkiye sends humanitarian aid shipment to Afghanistan’s Herat province
A twelfth shipment of humanitarian aid from Türkiye has arrived in Afghanistan’s western Herat province, officials announced on Wednesday, marking another significant contribution to ongoing relief efforts in the country.
The latest consignment, weighing 1,271 tonnes, was formally handed over to the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) during a ceremony attended by Afghan and Turkish officials.
Speaking at the handover event, ARCS Director Sheikh Shahabuddin Delawar reaffirmed that the aid would be distributed transparently and delivered to the rightful beneficiaries nationwide.
He noted that ARCS teams have been actively conducting major relief operations throughout the year, particularly in earthquake-hit provinces such as Kunar, Balkh, and Samangan. Emergency service camps providing healthcare, hot meals, and other essential assistance remain operational in these regions.
Herat Governor Sheikh Mawlawi Noor Ahmad Islamjar praised the ARCS for its humanitarian work and assured full cooperation from the provincial administration to ensure the smooth distribution of aid. He also thanked Türkiye for its sustained support for the Afghan people.
Tuzcan Qazioglu, Türkiye’s Consul General in Herat, said the 1,271-tonne aid package includes both food and non-food items intended for families affected by natural disasters. He emphasized that Türkiye has consistently stood by Afghanistan in times of hardship and will continue to support relief and recovery efforts.
The latest delivery underscores Türkiye’s ongoing role as one of Afghanistan’s key humanitarian partners during a period marked by economic challenges and repeated natural disasters. (ILKHA)
