The World Health Organization (WHO) has cancelled events scheduled for Wednesday at the Global Obesity Summit in Madrid following a deadly train crash in Spain.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced the decision in a statement posted on X, expressing condolences to those who lost loved ones in the tragedy.
“My heartfelt condolences to everyone who lost a loved one in this tragedy. A heartbreaking day for Spain,” Tedros said.
He added that the decision to cancel the day's events was made out of respect for the victims and to allow the focus to remain on supporting their families.
