Iranian envoy highlights growing economic cooperation With Afghanistan
Iran's ambassador to Afghanistan has described economic cooperation between Tehran and Kabul as expanding during a meeting with Afghan businessmen in the capital.
The Iranian Embassy in Kabul said in a statement on Sunday that Ambassador Hassan Kazemi Qomi met with entrepreneurs from the Nader Pashtun area of Kabul to discuss economic cooperation and trade relations between the two neighboring countries.
The embassy said economic ties between Iran and Afghanistan were continuing to grow, but provided no further details about the discussions or any specific agreements reached during the meeting.
Iran and Afghanistan have maintained close commercial links, with trade, transportation, energy and investment forming key areas of economic engagement between the two countries.
Tehran has repeatedly emphasized the importance of strengthening economic relations with Afghanistan, while Afghan officials have sought to expand trade and investment ties with neighboring countries as the country faces continuing economic challenges.
The latest meeting comes amid efforts by both sides to increase private-sector contacts and facilitate cross-border commerce, particularly through Iran's ports and transportation networks.
Iran is one of Afghanistan's major trading partners and an important transit route for Afghan goods to international markets. The two countries share a border of more than 900 kilometers, supporting extensive commercial and people-to-people links.
The embassy did not disclose the volume of trade discussed during the meeting or announce any new investment agreements. (ILKHA)
