Türkiye’s economic confidence index stays flat at 99.5 in December
Türkiye’s economic confidence index remained unchanged at 99.5 in December, according to a statement released on Tuesday by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).
The data showed mixed trends across key sectors of the economy when compared with the previous month. The consumer confidence index declined by 1.8 percent, falling to 83.5, reflecting continued caution among households regarding the economic outlook.
In contrast, confidence in the real sector, which covers the manufacturing industry, increased by 0.5 percent to reach 103.7, signaling a modest improvement in expectations among producers. The services sector also recorded a slight rise, with its confidence index increasing by 0.4 percent to 112.3.
Retail trade confidence strengthened more noticeably, climbing by 1.1 percent to 115.4, indicating more positive sentiment among retailers. Meanwhile, the construction sector saw a decline in confidence, with its index falling by 0.5 percent to 84.5 in December.
The economic confidence index, which combines consumer and producer sentiment across various sectors, is considered a key indicator of overall economic expectations. A value above 100 generally indicates optimism, while readings below 100 suggest a more pessimistic outlook. (ILKHA)
