Türkiye's annual inflation at 29.73% in September
Türkiye's annual consumer inflation rose to 29.73% in September, while prices increased 1.84% from the previous month, data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) showed on Monday.
Inflation was driven by sharp increases in housing and transport costs. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels rose 39.99% from a year earlier, while transport prices increased 35.10%.
Food and non-alcoholic beverage prices rose 27.62% annually, although they fell 0.20% month-on-month.
Housing costs increased 2.71% on the month, while transport prices rose 2.79%. The three categories were among the biggest contributors to the monthly inflation rate.
The core CPI measure, which excludes unprocessed food, energy, alcoholic beverages, tobacco and gold, rose 29.00% annually and 2.01% month-on-month.
Prices increased in 133 of 174 consumer categories tracked by TÜİK in September, while 35 categories recorded declines and six were unchanged.
On a 12-month moving average basis, headline inflation stood at 31.49%, while the core measure was 30.80%. (ILKHA)
