The head of the Hope Caravan Association (Umut Kervanı Derneği) in Batman, Nurettin Teymur, called on philanthropists to support an education and development building project being constructed on the campus of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza, where the health system has been devastated by the ongoing Israeli assault.

Speaking to an Ilke News Agency (ILKHA), Teymur said the nearly three-year-long attacks on Gaza have brought the territory’s already fragile healthcare infrastructure to the brink of complete collapse.

He urged philanthropists to contribute to the project through share units priced at 5,000 Turkish liras, stressing that the initiative aims to help restore healthcare services and support the training of medical personnel in Gaza.

Hope Caravan launches project at Al-Shifa Hospital

Teymur said Umut Kervanı and its partner aid organizations across Türkiye have continued their humanitarian activities in Gaza despite the scale of the crisis.

“As Batman Hope Caravan, and together with all our aid organizations across Türkiye, we continue to stand by Gaza and heal its wounds,” he said, adding that the organization is also working to provide daily meals to people affected by the conflict.

“We have signed and launched the Al-Shifa Hospital project for the treatment of our wounded and the training of our doctors,” Teymur said.

The Education and Development Building is planned as part of efforts to help rebuild healthcare capacity at Al-Shifa Hospital, one of Gaza’s largest and most prominent medical facilities.

Call for philanthropists to support reconstruction

Teymur said the project still requires significant financial support, noting that the number of purchased shares remains below the level needed to complete the initiative.

“At present, the number of our shares is quite low. For this reason, we request assistance from our philanthropist brothers and sisters for this project for Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza,” he said.

According to Teymur, each contribution share costs 5,000 TL. He expressed hope that increased support would allow the organization to accelerate the reconstruction and rehabilitation of healthcare facilities in Gaza.

“With the aid that comes from philanthropists, we will raise the Gaza Hospital back up as soon as possible, do everything in our power, and, with our Lord’s permission, succeed in providing healing to our sick and wounded brothers and sisters there,” he said.

“The health system in Gaza has completely collapsed”

Teymur highlighted the devastating consequences of the conflict for Gaza’s medical sector, saying hospitals and healthcare workers have been operating under extremely difficult conditions.

“Everything in Gaza has collapsed, but right now we particularly want to talk about the health sector. The health system has completely collapsed,” he said.

He described the conditions faced by wounded Palestinians, including severe shortages of medical supplies and anesthesia, and said many patients have been forced to undergo painful procedures under extremely difficult circumstances.

“Our brothers and sisters there are losing their limbs one by one. Surgeries are being performed without anesthesia. It is truly impossible to describe this pain,” Teymur said.

He added that doctors working in Gaza have described experiences that have left them deeply traumatized, including having to perform amputations without adequate anesthesia.

Teymur criticized what he described as the international community’s failure to adequately respond to the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and called for greater solidarity with Palestinians.

“As the Hope Caravan family, we will continue to help them as much as we can, God willing,” he said.

The appeal comes as humanitarian organizations continue to warn about the severe deterioration of Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure and the urgent need for medical equipment, medicines, food and reconstruction assistance. (ILKHA)
