Iraqi PM Al-Zaidi to make first foreign visit to U.S. in July
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi is set to make his first foreign visit since taking office with a trip to the United States in mid-July, according to government spokesperson Haider al-Aboudi.
Speaking to local media, al-Aboudi said economic cooperation with Washington remains the most important file in bilateral relations and will be at the forefront of discussions during the visit.
The planned trip comes as Iraq seeks to strengthen economic partnerships, attract investment and advance development projects amid ongoing efforts to diversify its economy and improve public services.
Al-Aboudi also stated that Al-Zaidi does not intend to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections and is not involved in any political project or electoral alliance, emphasizing the prime minister's focus on governance and state affairs.
He added that the reactivation of the Kirkuk-Ceyhan and Kirkuk-Baniyas oil pipelines remains among the government's priorities, describing the projects as important for Iraq's energy sector and export capacity.
The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for Baghdad and Washington to discuss economic cooperation and issues of mutual interest as both countries seek to maintain constructive bilateral relations.(ILKHA)
