A high-level delegation from Afghanistan's Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) has departed for the Republic of Moldova on an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in agriculture, scientific research and the exchange of technical expertise.

The visit is expected to focus on expanding collaboration in sustainable agriculture, irrigation management, livestock development, seed production, horticulture and agricultural education, as both countries seek to enhance food security and improve the resilience of their farming sectors.

During the visit, the Afghan delegation is scheduled to hold meetings with senior officials from Moldova's Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, research institutions and agricultural organizations. Discussions are expected to explore opportunities for joint scientific research, knowledge transfer, capacity-building programs and the sharing of modern farming technologies.

According to officials, the two sides will also examine prospects for cooperation in climate-resilient agriculture, irrigation infrastructure, agricultural innovation and the development of value-added food production. Moldova has recently identified modernization of irrigation systems, strengthening climate resilience and improving the competitiveness of agricultural products among its top priorities in the sector.

The Afghan delegation is also expected to visit agricultural research centers, farms and food-processing facilities to gain first-hand knowledge of Moldova's experience in modern crop cultivation, orchard management, post-harvest processing and rural development.

The visit forms part of Afghanistan's broader efforts to expand international engagement in the agricultural sector through technical partnerships and scientific cooperation. In recent months, the Ministry of Agriculture has intensified contacts with regional and international partners to promote agricultural development, improve irrigation systems, strengthen livestock production and enhance farmers' technical capacities.

Officials from both countries expressed hope that the visit will pave the way for long-term institutional cooperation, joint research initiatives and future agreements that contribute to sustainable agricultural development and increased food production in both Afghanistan and Moldova. (ILKHA)
