Afghanistan's Acting Foreign Minister Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi held talks with the newly appointed Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Turhan Saleh, to discuss expanding cooperation on development and humanitarian priorities, the Foreign Ministry said.

The meeting focused on strengthening the partnership between Afghanistan and the UNDP, with both sides reviewing opportunities to enhance collaboration in key sectors aimed at supporting the country's long-term development.

According to the ministry, discussions covered the socioeconomic reintegration of returning Afghan nationals, as well as efforts to improve healthcare services, boost agricultural development, and promote sustainable alternative livelihood programs.

The two officials also exchanged views on environmental protection, climate change adaptation, and comprehensive disaster risk management, highlighting the importance of coordinated efforts to address Afghanistan's growing environmental and humanitarian challenges.

During the meeting, Muttaqi stressed the need to accelerate the implementation of major infrastructure and development projects, saying such initiatives are essential to promoting economic growth and long-term national stability.

He emphasized the importance of international support for projects that improve public services, strengthen livelihoods, and contribute to sustainable development across the country.

For his part, Saleh reaffirmed the UNDP's commitment to supporting Afghanistan's development priorities and said the agency would continue aligning its assistance with the country's most pressing needs.

The UNDP official said future cooperation would focus on delivering practical and sustainable development assistance designed to have a lasting impact on communities throughout Afghanistan.

The meeting reflects ongoing engagement between the Islamic Emirate and United Nations agencies as Afghanistan seeks greater international support for reconstruction, economic recovery, and development initiatives amid continuing humanitarian and socioeconomic challenges. (ILKHA)
