Afghanistan, Qatar discuss stronger bilateral ties and regional cooperation in Kabul meeting
Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi held talks with Qatar’s Ambassador to Afghanistan, Dr. Mirdif al-Shashouti, on Tuesday, focusing on efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange views on regional developments and issues of mutual interest.
According to officials, the meeting centered on enhancing cooperation between Afghanistan and Qatar, as well as reviewing regional affairs and opportunities for greater diplomatic engagement.
During the talks, Muttaqi praised the Qatari government for its role in facilitating communication and engagement between the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and the international community. He highlighted Doha’s continued efforts to support dialogue and diplomatic initiatives aimed at promoting understanding and cooperation.
The Afghan foreign minister also expressed appreciation for Qatar’s contributions to regional stability and its longstanding involvement in efforts related to Afghanistan.
For his part, Ambassador al-Shashouti reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to supporting constructive dialogue and expanding Afghanistan’s international engagement. He emphasized that Doha remains dedicated to facilitating diplomatic communication and fostering cooperation in line with its foreign policy approach, which prioritizes mediation, dialogue, and peaceful conflict resolution.
The discussions reflected the close relationship that has developed between Afghanistan and Qatar in recent years, particularly following Doha’s role as a key venue for diplomatic negotiations and international engagement concerning Afghanistan.
Both sides underscored the importance of maintaining regular consultations and strengthening cooperation on issues of shared interest, while expressing hope for further progress in bilateral relations and regional diplomacy.
The meeting comes amid ongoing regional efforts to promote stability, economic cooperation, and diplomatic engagement, with Qatar continuing to play an active role in facilitating dialogue involving Afghanistan and international stakeholders. (ILKHA)
