The Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, has released a new documentary highlighting the life and military career of Hamza Hisham Amer, widely known as the "Elegant Fighter," as part of its ongoing Moons of the Flood series honoring commanders and fighters killed during Israel's war on the Gaza Strip.

The documentary presents Amer's journey within the Palestinian resistance, documenting his role as a platoon commander in the Musab bin Umair Battalion of the Khan Yunis Brigade and his participation in the Al-Aqsa Flood operation.

Amer gained widespread recognition in January 2024 after appearing in footage released by the Al-Qassam Brigades that spread rapidly across social media. The video showed him wearing a long black coat and white sneakers while carrying a Yassin-105 anti-armor launcher and striking an Israeli military vehicle during battles in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza. His distinctive appearance earned him the nickname "The Elegant Fighter," a title that has since become closely associated with his image among supporters of the Palestinian resistance.

The newly released documentary traces various stages of Amer's military career, showing him overseeing the training of Al-Qassam fighters, participating in live-fire exercises before the launch of the Al-Aqsa Flood operation, and directing anti-tank units during confrontations with Israeli occupation forces in Khan Yunis.

The footage also depicts him continuing to lead fighters despite being wounded, with one scene showing Amer wearing a bandage around his head following an injury sustained during combat. Other scenes document Palestinian resistance fighters maneuvering through neighborhoods devastated by Israeli bombardment and targeting Israeli armored vehicles with anti-armor weapons.

According to the Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamza Amer was born in 1991 and was killed on March 1, 2024, while serving as a platoon commander in the Khan Yunis Brigade during Israel's military campaign in Gaza.

As part of the documentary, the Brigades released Amer's recorded final testament, in which he urged his family to remain steadfast, honor their commitments, and raise future generations according to the teachings of the Holy Quran while maintaining strong ties to their local mosques.

The documentary also highlights Amer's family history within the Palestinian resistance movement. He was the son of Hisham Hosni Amer, a senior Al-Qassam figure who was killed during the First Intifada in 1992 while carrying out an armed operation targeting the Khan Yunis police station, which, according to the Brigades, was being used by Israeli occupation forces at the time.

Presenting Hamza Amer's story as one of generational continuity, the Al-Qassam Brigades said his life reflected the enduring commitment of Palestinian resistance fighters to what they describe as the struggle against Israeli occupation.

The Moons of the Flood documentary series continues to chronicle the lives of Al-Qassam commanders and fighters killed during the Gaza war, portraying their personal stories, military roles and final messages as part of what the movement describes as preserving the legacy of the Palestinian resistance.
