The number of people killed in a landslide in Indonesia’s West Java province has risen to 85, local media reported on Wednesday, as search and rescue operations entered their 12th day.

According to Kompas TV, rescue teams recovered more bodies from the site, increasing the confirmed death toll. Authorities have not released further details, and efforts are still underway to locate those who remain missing.

Earlier this week, officials from the Bandung Search and Rescue Agency said at least 10 people were still unaccounted for when the number of confirmed fatalities stood at 70. Rescue teams believe some victims may still be buried beneath thick mud and debris.

The landslide struck a village in the West Bandung regency on January 24 after days of heavy rainfall, burying dozens of homes and displacing many residents. Entire sections of the village were overwhelmed by mud, rocks, and fallen trees.

Search operations are continuing despite challenging conditions, including unstable ground and difficult terrain. Teams made up of emergency responders, military personnel, police, and volunteers are working carefully to avoid further risks, as the area remains prone to additional landslides.

Authorities have also set up temporary shelters for displaced residents and are providing medical and psychological support to affected families. Rescue efforts are expected to continue in the coming days as officials work to locate the remaining missing individuals. (ILKHA)
