Eight Israeli-backed gang members surrender as Gaza resistance extends amnesty period
A senior official in Gaza’s Resistance Security announced that eight individuals linked to occupation-backed criminal gangs have voluntarily surrendered to the relevant authorities, following the opening of a ten-day amnesty window aimed at restoring security and social stability in the besieged Strip.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, the official confirmed that the surrender took place voluntarily and was facilitated through direct coordination with the families of the suspects. Tribal leaders also played a decisive role by withdrawing social and communal protection from the wanted individuals, a move that significantly eased their handover to resistance-linked security bodies.
The official emphasized that the amnesty period remains open for other wanted individuals across Gaza throughout the announced timeframe, urging anyone involved in criminal or collaboration activities to take advantage of this opportunity to regularize their legal status through established procedures before the window closes.
He stressed that the initiative comes as part of broader efforts by Gaza’s internal security institutions to prevent chaos and protect civilians in the face of ongoing aggression, siege, and attempts by the occupation to destabilize Palestinian society through proxy criminal networks.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel — backed by the United States and several European powers — has waged a devastating campaign in Gaza, marked by mass killings, starvation, widespread destruction, forced displacement, and arbitrary detention, in defiance of global calls for a ceasefire and legally binding orders from the International Court of Justice.
The assault has resulted in more than 239,000 Palestinians killed or injured, the overwhelming majority of them women and children. More than 11,000 people remain missing under the rubble, while hundreds of thousands of families have been forcibly displaced. Famine conditions have taken the lives of many, especially children, as entire residential districts have been erased and Gaza’s cities and vital infrastructure reduced to ruins.
Despite these conditions, Gaza’s resistance and civil structures continue efforts to maintain internal order and protect the social fabric of Palestinian society amid one of the most severe humanitarian catastrophes of modern times. (ILKHA)
