Hamas on Saturday completed a prisoner exchange, releasing four female Israeli soldiers who were held in Gaza as part of a swap deal with the Zionist entity.
This exchange followed the end of a 15-month brutal war that devastated Gaza and showcased the resilience of its people.
The event, held in Gaza City’s Palestine Square, was marked by the presence of hundreds of fighters from Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’ military wing, and the Al-Quds Brigades of Islamic Jihad. The fighters, who symbolized Palestinian resistance, stood in solidarity as the captives were handed over.
The four Israeli captives, wearing military uniforms and carrying souvenirs from Gaza, were escorted to the stage by Al-Qassam fighters. Representatives from the International Red Cross also participated, overseeing the formalities of the handover. Following the ceremony, the captives were transported to the occupying forces by Red Cross vehicles.
In Tel Aviv, families of the Israeli captives anxiously gathered in Hostages Square, monitoring the handover on a large screen. Israeli media outlets reacted to the events in Gaza, with the Times of Israel acknowledging the ceremony in Palestine Square as a powerful demonstration of strength and unity by Hamas.
The Israeli military expressed frustration with the handover ceremony, with spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari accusing Hamas of “cynicism” and alleging mistreatment of captives. However, the scenes in Gaza City displayed the care and coordination undertaken by Palestinian resistance factions during the exchange.
This swap deal has become a focal point of global attention, highlighting the ongoing struggle of the Palestinian people for freedom and justice against decades of occupation and aggression. It serves as a testament to the strength and determination of the Palestinian resistance in advocating for the rights of their people. (ILKHA)
