Hamas welcomes joint Arab and Muslim foreign ministers’ statement on Gaza roadmap
The Hamas Movement has welcomed a joint statement by the foreign ministers of the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, saying their condemnation of Israel’s rejection of a roadmap linked to US President Donald Trump’s plan for ending the war in Gaza could help advance efforts toward a ceasefire and regional stability.
In a statement issued Monday, Hamas praised the ministers’ call for the full and immediate implementation of the roadmap, as well as their support for continued US, Peace Council and mediator involvement to ensure that the agreed arrangements are implemented.
Hamas said the international and regional parties involved should work to prevent the Israeli government from obstructing the roadmap or evading its commitments, while advancing the requirements of its second phase according to the agreed arrangements and timetable.
The Palestinian movement also welcomed the foreign ministers’ rejection of what it described as Israeli attempts to deny the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and an independent, fully sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Hamas argued that Israel’s continued occupation, annexation policies and settlement expansion, along with efforts to establish permanent facts on the ground, undermine prospects for peace and long-term security in the region.
The movement called for the ministers’ position to be followed by concrete political and diplomatic action and sustained international pressure on Israel to fulfill its commitments under the agreed framework.
Hamas said such efforts should focus on ending the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, beginning the reconstruction of the devastated territory and enabling Palestinians to exercise what it described as their legitimate national rights.
The joint statement, issued Sunday by the foreign ministers of the eight countries, strongly condemned Israel’s reported rejection of the roadmap associated with Trump’s plan to end the conflict in Gaza and its opposition to Palestinian statehood.
The ministers referred to UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and called for the agreed framework to be implemented, while holding Israel responsible for obstructing efforts aimed at ending the conflict and establishing a path toward lasting peace.
The statement comes amid continued international efforts to implement the Gaza framework and move toward its subsequent phases.
Hamas said the position expressed by the eight countries represents an important diplomatic step but stressed that it must be accompanied by effective measures capable of ensuring compliance and preventing further delays.
The movement also called for international efforts to prioritize the humanitarian situation in Gaza, facilitate reconstruction and safeguard Palestinian political and national rights as part of any long-term settlement. (ILKHA)
