Iran says the newly discovered gas reserves in the South Pars region have "sweet gas" characteristics, which could reduce development and operating costs.

Iran has discovered more than 7.5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves in the South Pars region in the country's south, Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad announced.

Paknejad said the newly discovered reserves are equivalent to the amount of natural gas produced by one phase of the South Pars field over a period of approximately 15 years.

The Iranian minister stated that the discovery would make a significant contribution to the country's energy resources and strengthen Iran's natural gas production capacity.

Paknejad said the newly discovered gas has "sweet gas" characteristics, meaning it contains low levels of sulfur and requires less processing before transportation and use. He added that this quality would significantly reduce development and operational costs for the field.

The minister also said the reserves contain a significant amount of gas condensate, adding that these resources could generate tens of billions of dollars in additional economic value for Iran beyond the value of the natural gas itself.

The South Pars field, shared with Qatar, is considered one of the world's largest natural gas reserves. The Iranian section of the field is one of the country's most important energy production centers.(ILKHA)
