Iran hosts high-level talks with Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on regional security
Senior officials from Iran, Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia held talks in Tehran on Monday to discuss regional security, the consequences of military aggression and efforts to strengthen cooperation among Muslim-majority countries, Iranian media reported.
Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman Al Saud, Pakistani Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization chief Ibrahim Kalın met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei.
The four-way meeting focused on regional security developments, the repercussions of military aggression and support for Palestine and Lebanon, according to Iranian media reports.
Earlier on Monday, Ali Bagheri, deputy secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said senior officials from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye were travelling to Tehran as part of efforts to advance the concept of regional security built on the participation of West Asian countries.
Bagheri said the visit followed Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir’s trip to Iran the previous week. During that visit, Munir met with Rezaei and conveyed that senior officials from Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan had agreed to travel to Tehran for consultations and a joint meeting.
The purpose of the latest visit was to discuss regional security with Iranian officials, Bagheri said.
He added that cooperation among Iran and the three visiting countries could help advance a regional security framework based on the involvement of regional actors rather than dependence on external powers.
Bagheri described the initiative as an opportunity to draw on Iran’s experience in national security and strengthen regional cooperation.
Addressing the meeting, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said closer cooperation among Muslim countries could help prevent further Israeli military aggression across the region.
“The region has witnessed widespread Israeli crimes in recent years. A united front among Muslim countries could prevent Israel from continuing its aggression,” Pezeshkian said.
He argued that military pressure had failed to achieve its intended objectives in Iran, instead strengthening national unity and solidarity.
“Israel thought pressure and military aggression would lead to Iran’s collapse, but instead strengthened national unity and solidarity,” he said.
Pezeshkian added that, despite the losses and hardships caused by the conflict, Iranians had remained determined to defend their country.
He described the belief that Iran could be forced to surrender as misguided, reiterating Tehran’s readiness to support arrangements that promote unity among Islamic countries.
According to Pezeshkian, Muslim-majority nations could use their shared resources and capabilities to offer the international community a model based on justice and development.
The Tehran meeting comes amid efforts by regional governments to strengthen diplomatic coordination on security challenges and the continuing conflicts affecting West Asia, including the situation in Palestine and Lebanon. (ILKHA)
