Iranian delegation heads to Switzerland to demand implementation of MoU commitments
An Iranian delegation has departed for Switzerland to follow up on the implementation of commitments contained in a recently signed memorandum of understanding (MoU), according to Iran's Foreign Ministry.
Speaking to reporters at Tehran's Mehrabad Airport on Saturday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the visit is aimed at ensuring that the other party fulfills its obligations under the agreement and that the implementation process proceeds according to the agreed framework.
Baghaei made the remarks while accompanying members of the Iranian negotiating team before their departure for Switzerland.
The spokesman explained that the trip had originally been scheduled for Friday and was intended to coincide with the formal signing of the memorandum of understanding. However, because the agreement was ultimately signed through digital channels, the need for an immediate in-person meeting diminished.
He stressed that the current mission is centered on monitoring the execution of the agreement and ensuring compliance with its provisions.
"The real test of any agreement begins during its implementation," Baghaei said, emphasizing that Iran intends to closely follow the process and seek guarantees that commitments are carried out in full.
He added that previous experiences with unmet obligations and implementation disputes have made it essential for Tehran to pursue the matter with seriousness and vigilance.
Baghaei pointed specifically to Clause 13 of the memorandum, describing it as a central provision governing the next stage of negotiations.
According to the spokesman, discussions on a final and comprehensive agreement will only begin after implementation of commitments contained in Clauses 1, 4, 5, 10, and 11 has started and is progressing satisfactorily.
He said the memorandum establishes a clear sequence of obligations and that advancing toward future negotiations depends on the successful execution of the initial commitments.
Iranian media later reported that the delegation is being led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament.
The visit comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to consolidate understandings reached between the parties and to translate the provisions of the memorandum into practical measures on the ground.
Officials have not released further details regarding the delegation's schedule or the specific meetings planned in Switzerland. However, Iranian authorities have indicated that the primary objective of the mission is to secure the implementation of agreed commitments and assess progress before discussions on a broader final agreement move forward.
The talks are expected to be closely watched as both sides enter the critical implementation phase of the memorandum, a stage that Iranian officials describe as decisive for determining the future trajectory of negotiations and bilateral understandings. (ILKHA)
