One dead after freight cars plunge from bridge in Germany
One person was killed after two freight trains collided on a railway bridge in the German city of Munich, causing derailed wagons to fall onto a road below, police said on Saturday.
According to police officials, the accident occurred at around 01:40 a.m. local time in the Milbertshofen district in the north of the city. Following the collision, two freight wagons left the tracks and crashed from the bridge onto a street underneath.
Around 60 emergency responders were deployed to the scene, where security measures were taken and debris removal and investigation work began.
Authorities confirmed that one person died in the accident. No detailed information has yet been released regarding possible additional injuries.
Police said an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the collision, adding that the exact circumstances will be clarified following technical examinations at the site.
The incident disrupted rail operations in the area as emergency teams continued their work to secure the site and assess structural risks. (ILKHA)
