Islamic Emirate urges immediate end to U.S. drone flights violating Afghan airspace
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has once again condemned ongoing U.S. drone activity over Afghan territory, saying the flights violate the country’s sovereignty and must stop without delay.
IEA spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid, speaking to Iran’s IRIB News Agency, confirmed that the government has precise knowledge of the aircraft entering Afghan airspace.
“Yes, we know clearly that these drones are American and that they have been present in Afghanistan’s airspace since the victory of the Islamic Emirate,” Mujahid said. “We regret that they pass through the airspace of some countries before entering Afghanistan.”
He stressed that such incursions are unacceptable and that the Islamic Emirate has consistently raised the issue in meetings with involved parties. Afghan citizens, he added, have also expressed deep concern over the continued violations.
Addressing the broader diplomatic situation, Mujahid stated that steps taken by the Islamic Emirate toward normalizing international relations have been “effective,” noting that the IEA currently oversees around 40 diplomatic missions worldwide.
He said that many host countries have developed positive working relationships with the IEA and are inclined toward full recognition, pending political shifts among Western governments.
However, he criticized Western policies that he said still reflect “wartime thinking,” arguing that such approaches must evolve.
“Recognition is not the only issue,” Mujahid noted. “The people of Afghanistan are under sanctions, and senior members of the Islamic Emirate continue to face travel bans. Other obstacles also remain and must be removed.”
He emphasized that relations with Islamic and neighboring countries remain strong and continue to expand, even as Western restrictions persist. (ILKHA)
