Islamic Emirate urges UN to facilitate diplomatic relations with world powers

Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, announced on Tuesday that the caretaker government intends to take concrete measures this solar year to revive diplomatic ties with other nations and secure international recognition.
Speaking to TOLOnews, Mujahid underscored the government’s ongoing efforts but noted uncertainty over whether global acceptance would materialize within the year.
Mujahid called on the United Nations to play a pivotal role in bridging relations between Afghanistan and the international community. “It is their responsibility to take fundamental steps in restoring relations between Afghanistan and the world, especially the United Nations, and to value these ties,” he said. He emphasized Afghanistan’s significance on the global stage, arguing that the lack of recognition undermines the rights of the Afghan people. “They should have a better position,” he added.
Despite more than three and a half years since the Islamic Emirate regained control of Afghanistan in August 2021, no country has formally recognized its government. However, diplomatic relations have been established with nations including Iran, China, Türkiye, Qatar, and Uzbekistan. Mujahid’s remarks signal a renewed push for legitimacy as the caretaker administration seeks to overcome its isolation.
The Islamic Emirate’s latest pledge comes amid ongoing domestic and international scrutiny of its governance, with the caretaker administration balancing national interests against the demands of a wary global community. (ILKHA)
