Israel’s large-scale call-up raises concerns of expanded military action in Lebanon
The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) have announced the mobilization of 100,000 reservists amid escalating tensions with Hezbollah along the Lebanese border, signaling a possible ground incursion into southern Lebanon.
Military sources reported that the IOF has warned residents of dozens of villages in southern Lebanon to evacuate their homes and move to open areas ahead of potential air and ground operations. The warnings, issued in the southern districts near the border, reflect the occupation army’s preparation for a wider military campaign. Video footage from the area shows increased troop movements and fortification efforts along the border.
The Israeli occupation’s so-called Defense Minister Yisrael Katz stated that Hezbollah will “pay a heavy price” for its recent attacks and identified Hezbollah Secretary General Naim Qassem as a primary target. The IDF spokesperson confirmed that all necessary steps are being taken to protect settlements in northern Israel in case of retaliatory actions by Hezbollah.
International media report that airstrikes conducted by the IOF have already targeted Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon, resulting in casualties and the destruction of infrastructure. Despite these strikes, no official announcement has yet been made regarding a full-scale ground invasion. Analysts warn that mobilizing such a large number of reservists is unprecedented in recent years and indicates the IOF’s readiness for a prolonged military campaign.
Observers note that the ongoing escalation could spark a broader regional conflict, drawing in Iranian-backed groups and allied militias in Lebanon and potentially Syria. Diplomatic sources have expressed concern over the humanitarian impact, as civilian populations in southern villages face displacement and disruption. Local authorities are coordinating evacuation efforts, while international organizations monitor the situation closely.
The situation marks one of the most serious escalations along the Lebanon-Israel border in recent years. The mobilization of 100,000 reservists and the precautionary measures for northern Israeli settlements underscore the IOF’s preparation for both defensive and offensive operations, raising fears of an extended conflict in the region.
