Israeli airstrikes kill 16, injure dozens across southern Lebanon
At least 16 people were killed and 22 others injured in a series of Israeli airstrikes targeting multiple areas in Lebanon early Wednesday morning, according to local sources.
Lebanese news outlets reported that Israeli warplanes struck the towns of Hannawiyah, Shihabiyah, Qana, and al‑Housh in the Tyre district of southern Lebanon, as well as Lilaki in Beirut’s southern suburb and Zilaya in the Western Beqaa.
The strikes followed a violent day on Tuesday, when Israeli attacks killed a Lebanese army soldier, a paramedic, a mayor, a municipal council member, and several civilians across southern Lebanon, the Beqaa region, and Beirut’s southern suburb. The attacks are part of a rapidly escalating military confrontation that began on Monday.
According to the Lebanese government’s Disaster Risk Management Unit, Israeli airstrikes have now killed 570 people, wounded 1,444, and displaced more than 759,300, including 122,600 seeking shelter in emergency facilities.
Despite the rising casualties, the Israeli occupation army continues to issue evacuation warnings for areas in Beirut’s southern suburb and villages in southern Lebanon, as airstrikes persist. Meanwhile, Hezbollah has launched rocket and drone counterattacks on Israeli military sites and bases, further intensifying the conflict.
The latest strikes have drawn widespread concern over the humanitarian impact in Lebanon, as civilians face growing threats to life, property, and access to shelter amid continuous aerial bombardment. (ILKHA)
