Germany reaffirms visa-free entry for citizens of 62 non-EU countries in 2026
Germany has reaffirmed its visa-free travel policy for 2026, allowing citizens from 62 countries outside the European Union (EU) and the Schengen Area to enter the country without obtaining a short-stay visa.
According to the latest list released by the German Federal Foreign Office, eligible travelers can visit Germany for tourism, business, family visits, or other short-term purposes without a visa for stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
The policy applies to nationals of the designated countries who meet Germany's entry requirements, including possessing a valid passport and, where applicable, proof of sufficient financial means, accommodation, and onward or return travel.
The visa exemption covers only short-term stays and does not permit employment or long-term residence in Germany.
Travelers intending to study, work, or remain in Germany beyond the permitted period must obtain the appropriate visa or residence permit before traveling.
German authorities said the continued visa-free regime is aimed at facilitating tourism, business travel, cultural exchanges, and family visits while maintaining secure border controls.
The measure reflects Germany's ongoing commitment to promoting international mobility with trusted partner countries under its immigration and border management framework.
As a member of the Schengen Area, Germany's visa policy is aligned with common Schengen regulations. Visitors entering Germany under the visa-free scheme can generally travel throughout the other Schengen member states during the permitted 90-day period, provided they comply with Schengen entry rules.
The updated list of visa-exempt countries for 2026 was published by the German Federal Foreign Office, reaffirming that citizens of 62 non-EU and non-Schengen nations will continue to benefit from visa-free access for short-term visits. (ILKHA)
