Israeli occupation forces have intensified incursions along the Lebanon border, involving tanks, armored personnel carriers, and extensive drone operations, according to local reports in South Lebanon.
The actions have led to explosions, property damage, and significant environmental harm in several border villages.
On January 16, the village of Aita Al-Shaab experienced its fourth explosion of the day from Israeli shelling. Earlier in the day, a convoy consisting of three tanks, an armored vehicle, and a personnel carrier was observed moving towards the northern outskirts of Maroun Al-Ras, extending operations towards Bint Jbeil. The Israeli military reportedly targeted residential properties, causing damage to gates and private structures.
Further south, in Al-Taybeh, Israeli forces opened fire along the town's perimeter towards Deir Seryan, igniting fires in several homes. Similar aggressive actions were noted in Hula with heavy gunfire and in Mays Al-Jabal where thorough searches were conducted by Israeli troops.
Throughout the day, armed drones were spotted flying at various altitudes over the border areas, indicating a high level of military activity akin to wartime scenarios. Even in Beirut's southern suburbs, known as Dahiyeh, Israeli drones were observed flying at low altitudes.
The Lebanese army's planned deployment to these border villages has been delayed for over ten days due to the Israeli refusal to withdraw from the area. This has left border regions like Yaroun, Ayta Al-Shaab, Maroun Al-Ras, Blida, Mays Al-Jabal, and Adaisseh exposed to continuous violations.
Environmental concerns have also escalated, with Israeli forces accused of deforestation, particularly in the Yaroun forest near the occupied Palestinian territories. Bulldozers have been reported leveling the forest, uprooting ancient trees, and causing what local activists describe as irreversible damage to the ecosystem.
As tensions rise, the international community is urged to address these violations to prevent further escalation and protect civilian lives and the environment in this volatile region. (ILKHA)
