Japan issues heavy rain warning as two typhoons approach
Japan's weather authorities have warned of heavy rainfall and possible flooding as two typhoons move toward the country, raising concerns over landslides, transportation disruptions and potential evacuations.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), Typhoon Mekkhala is expected to approach Japan's Pacific coast, while Typhoon Higos, currently moving over waters east of the Philippines, is tracking northward.
The agency warned that areas along the Pacific coastline from southwestern to eastern Japan could experience intense rainfall in the coming days and urged residents to remain alert for flooding, landslides and other weather-related hazards.
Strong winds are also forecast for parts of Okinawa Prefecture and the Amami Islands as the storms advance.
Evacuations and transport disruptions
Japan's Fire and Disaster Management Agency said evacuation orders issued due to heavy rainfall have affected hundreds of thousands of residents in western and southwestern regions, including Yamaguchi and Fukuoka prefectures.
Authorities warned that severe weather conditions could disrupt transportation networks, with train and air services facing possible delays and cancellations.
Some manufacturers have also temporarily suspended production operations as a precaution amid the worsening weather conditions.
Officials urged residents in vulnerable areas to closely follow evacuation guidance and weather updates as the two storms continue to approach the country.(ILKHA)
