A modern cold storage facility with a $1.5 million investment has been inaugurated in Guzara district of Afghanistan’s western Herat province, officials said.
The facility was officially opened at a ceremony attended by local officials, entrepreneurs and industrialists, highlighting growing private-sector investment in the province’s agricultural and food-processing infrastructure.
Built on a 4,000-square-meter site, the cold storage facility was completed within six months and has a storage capacity of 3,000 tons of fruit and meat.
The facility is expected to provide improved storage conditions for perishable products, helping reduce post-harvest losses and extend the shelf life of agricultural produce.
The investment also represents an effort to strengthen Afghanistan’s domestic cold-chain infrastructure, particularly in Herat, one of the country’s important agricultural and commercial hubs.
Entrepreneurs and industrialists attending the inauguration welcomed the project, emphasizing the importance of modern storage facilities for supporting farmers, traders and food businesses.
The new facility is expected to contribute to the development of the local agricultural sector by providing producers and traders with greater capacity to preserve their products before they reach domestic markets or are prepared for export. (ILKHA)
