North Korean leader hails new weapons as South Korea speeds drone deployment
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has overseen tests of multiple weapons systems, including multiple rocket launchers, tactical ballistic missile warheads, and long-range strike accuracy systems, according to state media KCNA.
The tests were conducted on the anniversary of the outbreak of the 1950–1953 Korean War, KCNA reported, with Kim personally observing the demonstrations.
The systems tested included an upgraded 240mm multiple rocket launcher, precision-guided artillery munitions, and enhanced strike components designed for tactical ballistic missiles.
KCNA said the tests were part of efforts to modernize the country’s arsenal under a long-term defense development program aimed at improving range, precision, and automated strike capabilities.
Kim said the results demonstrated significant progress in weapons technology, claiming that all long-range strike systems were being replaced with improved versions.
He added that North Korea would ensure adversaries “learn as soon as possible” about the country’s enhanced strike capabilities, according to KCNA.
South Korean officials have previously said such weapons developments are aimed at improving the ability to target strategic sites across the Korean Peninsula.
The latest tests come amid ongoing efforts by North Korea to expand and modernize its missile and artillery systems.(ILKHA)
