A Palestinian resistance fighter was killed early Friday after an alleged Israeli-backed attempt to abduct him in the Al-Qarara area north of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip, according to the Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement.
The group identified the slain fighter as Fadi Ali Saeed Al-Abadla, saying he was targeted by what it described as “collaborator militias” operating with support from an Israeli reconnaissance drone.
In a statement, the Al-Quds Brigades said its fighters detected the infiltrating force as it moved along Al-Jumeiza Street and immediately confronted the group at close range.
The resistance group said its fighters used grenades and medium-caliber weapons during the confrontation, claiming that the attacking force suffered confirmed casualties, including fatalities and injuries.
According to the Al-Quds Brigades, an Israeli drone subsequently intervened to provide cover for the armed group as it attempted to withdraw from the area.
The group said the attackers then shot and killed Al-Abadla and left his body behind before fleeing the scene after evacuating their own dead and wounded.
The incident highlights the increasingly complex security environment in southern Gaza, where Palestinians continue to face Israeli military operations, raids and attacks amid the broader conflict.
The Al-Quds Brigades described the incident as an attempt to target Palestinian resistance personnel through a locally operating force allegedly backed by Israel. Such allegations reflect longstanding accusations by Palestinian factions that Israel has sought to exploit local armed networks to pursue resistance fighters inside the besieged Gaza Strip.
The claims regarding the identities of the attackers, their casualties and the Israeli drone's involvement could not be independently verified.
The killing of Al-Abadla adds to the mounting toll among Palestinians amid the continuing violence in Gaza, where resistance groups say they remain engaged in efforts to confront Israeli military operations and attempts to penetrate Palestinian areas. (ILKHA)
