PKK evacuates four camps in northern Iraq amid Türkiye’s disarmament process
The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has evacuated four camps in northern Iraq as part of the ongoing process aimed at ending the group’s armed activities, local sources reported on Monday.
According to Turkish security sources, the four camps are located in the Baze area of the Metina region.
The reported evacuations come amid broader developments linked to the process, including efforts to integrate the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into Syria’s state institutions and reports of PKK positions being evacuated in the Sinjar region of northern Iraq.
Türkiye’s parliament approved a legal framework for the PKK’s disarmament and reintegration on Aug. 10, marking a step in efforts to end the decades-long conflict.
In May 2025, the PKK announced that it would disband and lay down its arms following a call by its imprisoned founder, Abdullah Öcalan, to end the group’s armed struggle.
The latest reported evacuations are part of a broader process whose stated aim is to bring the conflict to an end through disarmament and reintegration. (ILKHA)
