Russian missile strike on Kharkiv region kills at least 10, Ukrainian officials say
At least 10 people were killed and 17 others injured after a Russian missile strike hit the village of Pechenihy in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region, Ukrainian officials said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the attack targeted a crowded area in the center of Pechenihy, where a post office, shops and residential buildings are located.
Zelenskyy said emergency teams were continuing rescue operations at the scene, while injured people were receiving medical treatment.
Kharkiv Regional Military Administration head Oleh Syniehubov said the strike was carried out with missiles. According to preliminary assessments by Ukrainian authorities, the attack involved two small cruise missiles.
The strike damaged civilian infrastructure, including 10 private buildings, a cafe, a post office, a store and several vehicles, according to regional officials.
Ukrainian authorities said investigations into the attack were ongoing, while Russia has not issued an immediate public statement regarding the incident.
The attack came as Russia and Ukraine continue exchanging long-range strikes amid the ongoing war, with civilian areas repeatedly affected by missile and drone attacks. (ILKHA)
