Syria condemns Israeli attack on Idlib military airbase
Syria on Tuesday condemned Israeli airstrikes on the Abu al-Duhur Military Airbase in Idlib, describing the attack as a violation of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates called the strikes an “unjustified act of aggression” and warned that the escalation poses a threat to regional security and stability.
The ministry said the latest attack came amid continued Israeli military operations against Syrian territory since December 8, 2024, while Damascus has sought to exercise restraint, consolidate stability and avoid further escalation.
According to the ministry, Israel’s continued attacks undermine Syria’s efforts to restore stability and risk pushing the region toward greater tension and insecurity.
The Syrian government held Israel responsible for the escalation and urged the international community and the United Nations Security Council to clearly condemn what it described as repeated Israeli violations of Syrian sovereignty.
Damascus also called for firm international action to prevent further attacks and violations of Syrian territory.
The ministry reaffirmed that Syria would continue to defend its national rights and interests through what it described as legitimate means guaranteed under international law and established international norms.
The condemnation follows reports that Israeli warplanes carried out several strikes against the Abu al-Duhur military airbase in the eastern countryside of Idlib. No immediate information on casualties was provided in the Syrian statement. (ILKHA)
