At least six people were killed and 31 others injured after a passenger bus overturned in Algeria’s northwestern Naâma province, the Algerian Civil Protection authorities said Sunday.

The crash occurred at approximately 3:05 a.m. local time after the bus reportedly veered off National Route 6 before overturning.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene and transported the injured to nearby medical facilities. Several of those injured sustained serious wounds, according to authorities.

The circumstances that caused the bus to leave the roadway were not immediately disclosed. An investigation is expected to determine the cause of the crash and whether factors such as road conditions, vehicle safety or driver error contributed to the accident.

The latest incident comes less than a month after another deadly passenger bus accident in Algeria.

In late July, 25 people were killed and 44 others injured when a passenger bus overturned in Boumerdès province, near the capital, Algiers.

The repeated deadly crashes have renewed concerns over road safety and passenger transport conditions in the country.

Authorities continue to investigate the latest accident in Naâma as medical teams treat those injured in the crash. (ILKHA)
