Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, in Amman on Wednesday.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of a ministerial gathering hosted by Jordan on the situation in Jerusalem amid growing regional concerns over recent developments at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and the occupied Palestinian territories.
According to diplomatic sources, Fidan and Safadi exchanged views on efforts to halt the ongoing violence in Gaza, stressing the need for an immediate and lasting ceasefire, the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian assistance, and intensified international efforts to prevent further escalation across the region. They also discussed ongoing diplomatic initiatives aimed at restoring regional stability.
The ministers reaffirmed the close coordination between Türkiye and Jordan on regional issues, particularly regarding the Palestinian cause and the protection of Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian holy sites. They underscored the importance of preserving the historic and legal status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and voiced concern over actions that could further inflame tensions.
The talks also covered broader regional developments, including security challenges, diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions, and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Türkiye and Jordan in political, economic, and humanitarian fields.
Fidan's visit comes as Jordan hosts a ministerial meeting on Jerusalem, bringing together Arab and Islamic countries to coordinate diplomatic efforts in response to recent developments affecting the holy city. Jordan has warned that unilateral actions at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound risk fueling wider regional instability and has called for stronger international engagement to uphold international law and existing arrangements governing the site.
Türkiye and Jordan have maintained close diplomatic coordination throughout the ongoing regional crises, with the two foreign ministers holding a series of consultations in recent weeks on Gaza, regional security, and de-escalation efforts. Both countries have repeatedly emphasized the need for a political solution to regional conflicts, expanded humanitarian assistance to Gaza, and renewed international efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace.
