Türkiye confirms deaths of soldier and two technicians in Qatar helicopter crash
Türkiye’s National Defense Ministry confirmed on Sunday that seven people, including four members of the Qatari Armed Forces, one Turkish Armed Forces soldier, and two ASELSAN technicians, were killed in a helicopter crash off the coast of Qatar.
According to the ministry, the helicopter, operated by the Qatari Armed Forces, was conducting training exercises under the Qatar-Turkish Combined Joint Force Command when it crashed into the sea on Friday evening. Initial findings suggest the accident was caused by a technical malfunction.
Search and rescue operations quickly recovered the wreckage of the helicopter and the bodies of those who lost their lives. The ministry emphasized that the exact cause of the crash will be determined following a formal investigation conducted by Qatari authorities.
Despite the tragedy, the ministry noted that military cooperation and coordination between Türkiye and Qatar continue uninterrupted as part of ongoing agreements and joint plans.
In a statement, the ministry expressed condolences: “We wish Allah’s mercy upon all our martyrs who lost their lives in this tragic accident, patience to their families, and offer our condolences to the Turkish Armed Forces, the Qatari Armed Forces, ASELSAN, the Turkish nation, and the brotherly people of Qatar.”
The incident marks a somber moment in Türkiye-Qatar military collaboration, highlighting both the risks of joint training operations and the close ties between the two nations’ armed forces. (ILKHA)
