Two pilots killed in plane crash in Dominican Republic
Two pilots were killed after a private business jet crashed while attempting an emergency landing shortly after takeoff in the Dominican Republic.
According to a preliminary report issued by the Dominican Republic's Emergency Operations Center (COE), the Gulfstream GALX business jet, registered as N318JF, experienced a technical malfunction shortly after departing from La Romana International Airport.
Authorities said one of the aircraft's engines developed a problem, prompting the crew to declare an emergency and attempt to return to the airport.
While trying to land, the aircraft reportedly lost control and crashed into an open area near the airport.
The pilot and co-pilot were killed in the crash. Officials confirmed that no passengers were on board at the time of the accident.
Emergency teams were dispatched to the scene, while aviation authorities launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.
The incident has renewed attention to aviation safety procedures and the challenges faced by flight crews when responding to technical failures shortly after takeoff, one of the most critical phases of flight.(ILKHA)
