Ukrainian forces struck a Russian Su-24 bomber at the Saky air base in occupied Crimea, along with a number of other Russian military targets, during strikes conducted between September 15 and 16, Ukraine’s General Staff said on Wednesday.

The General Staff said the Su-24 was hit at the air base, adding that the extent of the damage was still being assessed.

The attack was part of a wider series of strikes targeting Russian military infrastructure in several areas, according to the Ukrainian military.

Near Donetsk, Ukrainian forces struck a Russian site used for launching and storing drones, the General Staff said.

Ukrainian forces also targeted three Russian drone ground-control stations in Staromlynivka and Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast and in Pokrovske in Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

The General Staff additionally reported strikes on an ammunition depot in Luhansk Oblast and fuel and lubricant storage facilities in Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia oblasts.

The claims could not be independently verified.

Saky air base has repeatedly been targeted by Ukrainian forces since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Ukraine’s Omega special forces unit said on July 16 that it had struck a Russian Su-24M frontline bomber stationed at the base.

The Su-24M is a modernized version of the Soviet-designed Su-24, a twin-engine, supersonic tactical bomber developed to conduct attacks against ground targets.

Both Russia and Ukraine operate variants of the aircraft, which can carry guided and unguided munitions.

The aircraft has been used extensively by Russian forces for strike missions during the war in Ukraine.

The latest reported strike comes as Kyiv continues efforts to target Russian aviation, ammunition stocks, fuel infrastructure and drone capabilities behind the front lines, seeking to disrupt Moscow’s ability to sustain military operations. (ILKHA)
