The United Nations Security Council is set to convene on Tuesday for a session focused on the situation in Palestine, with particular attention to developments in the occupied West Bank.
The meeting was requested by several members of the Council amid growing international concern over the deteriorating situation in the occupied Palestinian territory.
During the session, Council members are expected to receive a briefing from Ramiz Alakbarov, the UN Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process. Alakbarov is scheduled to address the Council via video conference and provide an assessment of the latest developments on the ground.
The meeting comes as violence and tensions continue to rise across the occupied West Bank, where Palestinians have faced intensified Israeli military operations, arrests, home demolitions and settler violence.
Council members are expected to discuss the humanitarian and security situation, as well as the broader implications of continued Israeli settlement expansion and other measures affecting Palestinian communities.
The session also comes amid renewed international calls for the protection of Palestinian civilians and respect for international law in the occupied Palestinian territory.
The Security Council has repeatedly addressed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, although divisions among its permanent members have frequently limited its ability to take unified action.
Tuesday’s meeting is therefore expected to provide an opportunity for members to assess the latest developments in the West Bank and consider possible measures to address the deteriorating situation. (ILKHA)
