US Vice President Vance heads to Switzerland for Iran talks
US Vice President JD Vance departed Washington on Saturday for Switzerland, where negotiations with Iran are expected to begin as part of renewed diplomatic efforts to address Tehran's nuclear program and regional security concerns.
Vance's press secretary, Luke Schroeder, confirmed the trip in a social media post, sharing a photo of the vice president boarding his aircraft and saying that he was en route to Switzerland.
The vice president previously said the talks could begin as early as June 21 and indicated that he would participate in the negotiations once final arrangements had been completed.
The discussions are expected to focus on Iran's nuclear activities, regional security issues and efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East. Senior Iranian officials, including Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, are expected to take part in the talks.
The meeting comes amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing further escalation. Analysts view the negotiations as an important opportunity for Washington and Tehran to maintain dialogue despite persistent disagreements over key issues.(ILKHA)
