Türkiye registers more than 207,000 road vehicles in July
Türkiye registered 207,508 road motor vehicles in July, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), with motorcycles and cars accounting for the vast majority of newly registered vehicles.
Motorcycles represented 48.1% of all new registrations in July, followed by cars at 38.0%, small trucks at 9.4%, trucks at 1.9%, tractors at 1.6%, minibuses at 0.6%, buses at 0.3% and special-purpose vehicles at 0.1%.
Registrations rise 6.6% from June
The number of vehicles registered in July increased by 6.6% compared with the previous month.
Registrations of buses jumped 39.5% month-on-month, while truck registrations rose 34.5% and small-truck registrations increased 18.7%. Car registrations climbed 6.9%, while motorcycle registrations rose 3.7%.
However, registrations of special-purpose vehicles fell 44.3%, while minibuses declined 4.8% and tractors decreased 0.8% compared with June.
Despite the monthly increase, vehicle registrations were 19.4% lower than in July 2025.
Year-on-year registrations of buses increased 33.5%, trucks rose 13.6% and minibuses increased 1.8%. Meanwhile, registrations of special-purpose vehicles fell 49.1%, small trucks declined 30.3%, cars dropped 26.0% and motorcycles decreased 12.5%. Tractor registrations edged down 0.6%.
Vehicle fleet approaches 34.75 million
The total number of registered road motor vehicles in Türkiye reached 34,746,396 at the end of July.
Cars accounted for 51.7% of the country's registered vehicle fleet, followed by motorcycles at 21.7%, small trucks at 14.4%, tractors at 6.7%, trucks at 3.0%, minibuses at 1.6%, buses at 0.6% and special-purpose vehicles at 0.3%.
Meanwhile, 907,846 road motor vehicles changed hands in July. Cars accounted for 64.8% of the transferred vehicles, followed by small trucks at 14.2%, motorcycles at 13.7% and tractors at 2.9%.
Renault leads new car registrations
A total of 78,761 cars were newly registered in July.
Renault led the new-car market with 11.2% of registrations, followed by Fiat at 8.3% and Türkiye's domestic electric vehicle brand TOGG at 8.2%.
Hyundai accounted for 8.0%, Volkswagen 7.9%, Toyota 6.8%, Skoda 5.4%, Citroen 5.2%, Peugeot 4.7% and Mercedes-Benz 3.9%.
Other brands included Opel at 3.5%, Nissan at 3.2%, BMW and Kia at 3.1% each, Volvo at 2.3%, Chery at 2.0%, Audi and Mini at 1.7% each, Dacia at 1.5% and Jeep at 1.2%.
More than 1.17 million vehicles registered in first seven months
During the January-July period, Türkiye registered 1,170,247 road motor vehicles, representing a 13.1% decline compared with the same period of the previous year.
At the same time, 35,336 vehicles were withdrawn from traffic, an increase of 21.2% year-on-year. As a result, the country's vehicle fleet increased by a net 1,134,911 vehicles during the first seven months of the year.
Gasoline remains dominant among newly registered cars
Of the 534,811 cars registered between January and July, gasoline-powered vehicles accounted for 41.0%.
Hybrid cars followed with 31.8%, while fully electric vehicles represented 18.0%. Diesel cars accounted for 8.1%, and LPG-powered vehicles made up 1.1%.
The composition of Türkiye's existing car fleet remains considerably different. Of the 17,959,336 registered cars at the end of July, diesel vehicles accounted for 32.1%, followed by gasoline vehicles at 31.0% and LPG vehicles at 29.3%.
Hybrid cars represented 4.9% of the existing fleet, while fully electric cars accounted for 2.6%.
Smaller engines dominate new registrations
Smaller engine sizes continued to dominate among newly registered cars.
Of the 534,811 cars registered during January-July, 31.8% had engines of 1,300 cc or smaller. Vehicles with engine sizes of 1,401-1,500 cc accounted for 16.2%, followed by 1,501-1,600 cc at 14.5% and 1,301-1,400 cc at 10.5%.
Cars with engines between 1,601 and 2,000 cc represented 8.0%, while only 0.9% had engines of 2,001 cc or larger.
Grey remains the most popular car color
Grey cars were by far the most common color among newly registered vehicles during the first seven months of 2026.
Of the 534,811 newly registered cars, 41.6% — or 222,580 vehicles — were grey.
White cars accounted for 25.7%, followed by black at 11.9%, blue at 9.9%, green at 5.7% and red at 3.2%. Brown cars represented 1.3%, while orange and yellow each accounted for 0.3%. Other colors made up 0.1%.
The figures indicate that while Türkiye's overall vehicle registrations have slowed compared with the previous year, the country's vehicle fleet continues to expand, with motorcycles maintaining a strong share of new registrations and hybrid and electric vehicles gaining a growing presence among newly registered cars.
